The Scholarship with Hugh Baird College officially launched in August 2021, and students undertaking Level 3 studies were invited to apply for the programme by submitting a presentation detailing why they thought they should be accepted onto the scholarship.
Working with Peel Ports, the college has developed a bespoke programme that will give students the chance to spend time developing their skills in a real working environment.
The opportunity will enable the selected students to undertake an enhanced industry placement at The Port of Liverpool across various disciplines, including General Business Support Functions, Marketing, Engineering, and IT. Additionally, each student will be assigned a mentor to work with them during their placement.
The Scholarship programme aligns perfectly with Peel Ports initiative to invest in the next generation and encourage careers within the Maritime industry. It also provides a fantastic opportunity to communicate the exciting employment opportunities for young people on their doorsteps.
Dan Weigh, Head of Operational HR at Peel Ports, said:
This is a fantastic opportunity for five students from within our local community to come and experience what its really like to work at Peel Ports. At the same time, the students will be given an insight into the various career routes we have on offer at Peel Ports with the hope that one day they come to work with us.
